“Who Says?”: New Book Sets Out to Empower Children Through Words

Little Words Affirm, a project dedicated to empowering children through positive affirmations, is proud to announce the release of its new children’s book, Who Says?, launching on October 3rd, 2024.

Founded by Erica Grant-Wilson, Little Words Affirm was born from a deeply personal journey. Through the transformative power of language, Grant-Wilson aims to uplift children, particularly those who may struggle with learning challenges or societal pressures. Her mission is to create inclusive, affirming stories that encourage children to believe in their unlimited potential, regardless of the obstacles they face.

The book, Who Says?, is self-published in partnership with BK Royston Publishing. It addresses critical themes of self-belief, resilience, and the power of words, challenging the negative voices children often hear and encouraging them to defy the limits others may place on them. The narrative empowers children to embrace their unique strengths and reminds them that they can achieve their dreams.

Erica Grant-Wilson says, “This book is written from the perspective of the person I needed during my youth – a voice encouraging children that they can achieve anything they set their minds to, regardless of the challenges they face. Whether aspiring to be a doctor, lawyer, architect, interior designer, graphic designer, or teacher, children can pursue their dreams, even if they struggle with spelling, have dyslexia, ADHD, ASD, or any other condition.”

This book comes at a time when representation in children’s literature is still evolving, with some way yet to go in terms of representation. Studies show that only 3.4% of children’s books feature disabled main characters, and although racial diversity is increasing, more inclusive stories are still needed. Who Says? steps in to fill this gap by addressing both learning challenges and celebrating the diversity of children’s experiences.

Grant-Wilson’s adds, “I know firsthand the harm negative words can cause, but I also know the power of affirmations. Through Who Says?, I hope to spark confidence and ambition in every child who reads it.”

Who Says? isn’t just for children—it’s a message for adults as well. It reminds parents, educators, and society that children are capable of overcoming challenges when they have the right encouragement and belief in themselves.
