New kind of drama school helmed by Arjun Rose opens next to Liverpool Street Station

A new kind of drama school providing industry level training and real opportunities to a more diverse generation of actors has opened its doors next to Liverpool Street Station.

The Unseen is the creation of Arjun Rose, a seasoned writer and director with a roster of industry credits to his name including working with Lionsgate in the USA and several projects with Idris Elba. It’s on a mission to turn the traditional drama school format on its head and has moved into larger premises to accommodate bigger classes and be more accessible after its waiting list for student places swelled. The Unseen will look to bring in this more diverse collection of talent by creating opportunities to those who can’t afford a costly space at drama schools.

The Unseen has already held several masterclasses delivered by A-list Hollywood actors including Daniel Kaluuya, Ed Skrein, Robert Sheehan, Natalie Dormer and Sofia Boutella. Its ambassador is Robert Sheehan and the school is supported by some of the biggest film and television related institutions in the UK.

Founder Arjun Rose, Screen International star of tomorrow said, “One of the things that really sets The Unseen apart is our approach to development and commitment to diversity. Unlike most drama schools, which offer one showcase per year, we hold two monthly showcases for our students in Soho House. Many of the top agencies and casting directors are invited and attend, which is a testament to how effective our development techniques are. We have partnerships with major agencies and one of our students has just taken leading roles in two industry feature films.”

The Unseen’s teaching methodology and class format is different too. It blends a range of techniques and methods to build actors tools, with students given one-on-one training, fully directed sessions, filmed monologues and high end masterclasses to create fully immersive experiences. The October to December session structure includes movement and energy, script work and scene development, scene share and acting technique or improvisation.

A number of current Unseen students can be seen in Rose’s next project, Disconnect alongside YouTube phenomenon, Tanya Burr. It is due to be completed by the end of October.
