LA audience gets first look at comedy mockumentary Comet Orphan in private screening

The out-of-this-world comedy mockumentary, Comet Orphan has wowed audiences at an exclusive private screening at The Lee Strasberg Theatre & Film Institute – Film Production in LA.

The sci-fi short, which was written and directed by Hyejin “Grace” Park, tells the story of Charlotte, a 28-year-old print shop worker who believes she’s an alien: a COMET ORPHAN, left behind on earth after a family holiday from their comet.

As the SEXY AF society (Search for Extraterrestrials, Aliens are Friends) prepares for the return of Charlotte’s comet, she is torn apart by two homes. Is she going to stay on Earth with her boyfriend (who’s gearing up for a proposal), or should she reunite with her long-lost family on her home planet?

Funny and heartwarming, Comet Orphan is an LSTFI-LA Film Lab production inspired by Grace’s own experiences growing up. “Ok – I didn’t technically come from a comet, but I’ve always been a stranger. Having gone back and forth between different countries, I’ve always felt like a fish out of water and a ‘weirdo’,” she explains. “This film is a heartwarming tribute to those who’ve left home, felt like outsiders, and challenged the norm to be seen and heard, just like me.”

Comet Orphan’s team of executive producers includes Sheldon Larry, Ezra Justin Lee, Freddie Basnight, Sedi Park, and Herb Jackson Jr.

Natalie Gimon and Arwen Wang Ziyu took on producer duties while Craig Lief and Henry Thompson served as associate producers.

Executive producer, Herb Jackson Jr. partnered with Grace for Comet Orphan’s postproduction process, fresh off the success of his work on acclaimed shorts, Angel Fleet and The Last Butterflies.

He said, “The private screening went off without a hitch and it was wonderful to feel the audience’s reactions in real time. We’re looking forward to Comet Orphan’s festival run and I have a really good feelings folks worldwide will be thrilled as well. I’m happy to have partnered with Grace and the other producers to help get this film off the ground.”
