From Banker to Business Owner: Simon Rickson Leads Poppies Expansion in Chorley and Wigan

After a successful 20-year career in retail banking, Simon Rickson was ready for change – so he made it happen. At an age when most start looking forward to retirement, or at least to make plans for it, Simon is ready for a brand new adventure at the helm of cleaning business Poppies’ new Chorley and Wigan franchise.

A renowned name in the cleaning industry since 1980, Poppies has a proud history of delivering high-standard cleaning services across the UK. Simon is eager to uphold Poppies’ reputation for quality and reliability in his new franchise, which will launch later this month.

He says, “My main inspiration for buying the franchise was to be able to build a business that allows me to manage my own time and achieve financial stability for the future. Over the past three years, I have undergone a significant personal transformation, losing five stone in weight and gaining the confidence I lacked for most of my life. At 53, I realised it is never too late to pursue new directions. Poppies is the perfect fit for my aspirations.”

However, Simon doesn’t plan to fulfill his own aspirations alone. The Chorley and Wigan franchise will provide not only exceptional cleaning services but also local employment opportunities, as it seeks staff ahead of its launch later this July.

“I aim to be an employer who invests in local people,” Simon continues. “I believe in giving individuals the opportunities and respect they deserve so that we can succeed together. Although I haven’t run a company before, my focus is on the future and the journey I am on. I want to create longstanding job opportunities in the domestic cleaning industry, for a community of motivated and valued employees.”

Simon has great plans for the franchise. As well as creating of new jobs, it will provide all the reliable, high-quality cleaning services that Poppies is known for. The company’s longstanding reputation, built over four decades of hard work, provides a solid foundation for the new franchise to thrive and grow.

As Simon prepares for the official launch, he is looking to recruit dedicated staff members who look forward to launching a satisfying new career, just as he did.

“This new venture is not just about business: it is about building a future where local people can find meaningful employment and contribute to a trusted and respected company,” Simon adds.
