Handling Equipment Firm Emphasises Importance of Pallet Trucks as Stockpiling Reaches Record Levels

The UK’s warehouses are at full capacity with retailers stockpiling record amounts of goods ahead of the freshly delayed Brexit – leaving materials handling firm Midland Pallet Trucks to emphasise the importance of the warehouse workhorse, the pallet truck.

According to the Confederation of British Industry, stockpiling levels are now at their highest point since records began in 1983. More produce, especially festive items, has been purchased earlier than usual, meaning space is at a premium as the nation gears up for the busy Christmas shopping season.

Midland Pallet Trucks managing director, Phil Chesworth said, “The uncertainty surrounding Brexit has led retailers to take drastic action. In the busy festive period space is typically at a premium anyway and the timing of Brexit has meant that many felt they needed to get as much stock in as possible to minimise disruption. Now that the EU exit has been delayed again, thought must be put into how the country’s bulking warehouses can be safely managed amidst the huge uptick in activity that the festive period brings.

“While automation, AI and other such technologies often steal the headlines, equipment such as the humble hand pallet truck, manual stacker trucks and weighing scale pallet trucks really come into their own when orders are flying in and out. They’re really crucial to smooth operations and quick loading and unloading. More importantly, they can safeguard workers from problems such as back pain so they really are workhorses. Our advice would be to ensure that they are ready to go and don’t overlook them.”
