The award-winning short film ‘The Last Butterflies’ has been selected for September’s 27th annual FirstGlance™ Film Festival in Philadelphia.

The FirstGlance™ Film Festival selection caps a busy summer festival season for ‘The Last Butterflies’ cast and crew. The previous months have seen it featuring at the Mindfield Film Festival in Albuquerque and the San Diego Film Festival in California. It also screened at the Toronto International Nollywood Film Festival (TINFF) in mid-September where it won the ‘Best Short Drama: USA’ award. Following its appearance in Philadelphia, the short will screen at the six-day Richmond International Film Festival (Saturday, September 28).

‘The Last Butterflies’ was inspired by a series of nightmares experienced by writer and star Whitney Wegman Wood. After a collection of environmental disasters leads society to the brink of collapse, a young mother must find ways to survive with her small child as they navigate the near-future apocalypse.

The short also features Cooper Andrews and was directed by the award-winning filmmaker Patrick Rea. Herb Jackson Jr. served as associate producer and portrayed the role of a priest on screen.

He said, “I’m really excited about the upcoming First Glance Film Festival. Philadelphia is such a vibrant city, and I can’t wait to experience the festival known as ‘One of the Festivals for the Rest of Us.’ I’m thrilled to represent the cast and crew of The Last Butterflies at the event.”

With events in Philadelphia and Los Angeles, FirstGlance™ brings together shorts, web series, and feature-length films by some of the most promising local, national, and international filmmakers. It takes place over four days at the PFS Bourse Theatre (400 Ranstead St, 19106) in the heart of the historic Old City neighborhood.

‘The Last Butterflies’ will be screened on Friday, September 27, during the Twilight session at 5.54 pm.
