‘The Last Butterflies’ Selected to Screen at the Toronto International Nollywood Film Festival

The award-winning drama short ‘The Last Butterflies’ has wowed festival audiences across the United States and is now set to do the same internationally after being selected to screen at the Toronto International Nollywood Film Festival (TINFF).

Taking place from 08 – 15 September 2024, TINFF is a multicultural festival that celebrates diversity and inclusion through film. Welcoming both Canadian and international filmmakers, it hosts live film screenings and an annual awards event that, according to the festival, “Recognizes and encourages filmmakers by appreciating, promoting, challenging, and developing an understanding of equality, social justice, non-discrimination, diversity, and multiculturalism.”

‘The Last Butterflies’ will screen alongside a series of films from filmmakers hailing from Canada, in addition to countries as diverse as the USA, UK, Iran, Nigeria, Sweden, Taiwan, and Turkey.

The short, which also stars Cooper Andrews and was directed by Patrick Rea, earned writer and actor Whitney Wegman Wood the Female Filmmaker Award at the Coronado Island Film Festival. The cast and crew also won the Best Drama award at the Krampus Kon Film Festival.

‘The Last Butterflies’ associate producer Herb Jackson Jr. said, “Toronto is a city that holds a special place in my heart, so I’m absolutely thrilled we have been selected for TINFF!”

Filmed on location in Kansas, ‘The Last Butterflies’ begins in the aftermath of a series of environmental disasters which have led society to the brink of collapse. It charts the struggles of a young mother who must find ways to survive with her small child as they navigate the near-future apocalypse.
